When a dog or cat is feeling sick, waiting two days for an outside lab report is a long time. We run the tests we use every day here at 1345 Tecumseh Road West so we can read the numbers before you leave the building.
What we run here at the pet hospital
Our Idexx analyzers and SNAP tests cover the panels we need for most sick visits and wellness checks:
- Complete blood count and chemistry
- Urinalysis
- SNAP tests for parvo, heartworm, feline leukemia & FIP
Results for those tests are usually ready in 10 to 15 minutes. The vet who examined your pet goes over the printout with you in the room, not on a later phone call, if we can avoid it.
What still goes out
Some panels (cultures, unusual endocrine work, histopathology, and other specialized assays) are sent to reference laboratories. We tell you which test is leaving the building and when we expect the report. In-house does not mean we pretend every test belongs here.
How a sample is handled
A technician draws blood or collects urine, labels it immediately, and runs it. Samples are not batched for an afternoon courier unless they are going off-site. That is the point of owning the machines.
Why this matters on a Tuesday afternoon in Windsor
Same-visit results change the appointment. If the kidney values are high, we start fluids and a diet change before you drive home. If the SNAP is negative, we stop guessing and look at the next likely cause. You are not sitting on a “we’ll call you later” message while your pet is still ill.
