Dermatology

Diagnosis and treatment of dermatological issues which can cause discomfort, pain, and disease.

Just like us, your pet’s skin plays an important part in protecting its internal organs and structures. The skin is their largest organ and it is fairly easy to spot any abnormalities just by looking at them. There are many irritants in your pet’s environment that can cause them to develop dermatological issues. At our hospital, we are very skilled in providing treatment for any issues relating to the fur, skin, or nails. Please reach out to our team at 519-971-3100 if you have any questions about your pet’s dermatological health.

What are signs that my pet has skin problems?

The symptoms can look different for each pet, however, there are some common signs that you should look for:

  • Itchy or dry skin
  • Bald patches
  • Smelly fur
  • Dandruff
  • Lumps and rashes
  • Thinning fur or dull coat

What causes dermatological issues in pets?

  1. Pets can be allergic to pollen or certain foods
  2. Hormonal disorders
  3. Parasitic infections
  4. Infected wounds

Can I treat my pet’s skin issue at home?

We don’t recommend pet parents try to remedy any skin disorder on their own. From a medical point of view, the symptoms your pet is experiencing could be related to a more serious health problem. By following internet DIYs, you can cause more harm than good.

How do veterinarians treat skin problems?

Before our team provides any treatment we must first diagnose the problem. We perform various diagnostic testing which will include a full blood work panel. Based on the diagnosis, we may prescribe topical ointments, medicated shampoos, antibiotics, antihistamines and corticosteroids.
